The Bethel Park Lions are proud to be a service-oriented club. We not only SERVE our community by helping the blind and blind charities, those who are less fortunate than we are, and our community by helping and donating to their projects.

Bethel Park Lions present George M. Myers Scholarship for Lions year 2010-11 on June 6th.

Jeffrey plans to attend Duquesne University, majoring in biology and his goal is to become a physician’s assistant.
Bethel Park Lions President Nancy Wells on the left presents a donation check from the Bethel Park Lions Club to Bethel Park Public Library Executive Director Christine McIntosh. Bethel Park Public Library Board of Trustees President, Beverly McKee, is on the right. The Bethel Park Public Library provides materials and services for all ages. One collection of particular interest are the Large Print Books. The collection contains over 2,500 books, both fiction and nonfiction, for the visually impaired of all ages. The Bethel Park Public Library was officially established in October 1955. The Bethel Park Lions Club has supported the Large Print Book collection at the library for over 40 years.
The Bethel Park Lions Club recently gave a donation to South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM) to assist our neighbors in need. SHIM is serving 295 families comprised of over 960 individuals through their food pantry, back-to-school back packs filled with school supplies, clothing, and utility assistance programs. SHIM helps certified families from the school districts in Bethel Park, Baldwin-Whitehall, Keystone Oaks, Mt. Lebanon, South Park, and Upper St. CLair.

Nancy Wells, President of the Bethel Park Lions Club presented a donation check from the Lions Club to Joe Heyl, President of the Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company recently. The B.P.V.F.C. was chartered in 1927. It moved into its fire station on Brightwood Rd. in 1955, according to Reno Virgili, former chief of the fire company. Currently the fire company has 3 fire stations, 10 fire trucks, and 76 volunteer members. More info on the fire company can be found on their website: www.bethelparkvfc.com

ons recently presented Bethel Park High School senior Maggie Mae Farthing the $3,000 George Meyer Scholarship for 2010.
Lion George Meyer was a highly respected Bethel Park Lions Club Officer, Bethel Park High School teacher and Student Government sponsor.
Maggie will attend Warren Wilson College in Ashville, North Carolina.

The Bethel Park Lions Annual Steak Fry was held on Tuesday, August 3rd at Lions Park. Honored guests attending were PDG Sylvan Lang, PA Lions Foundation board member, and PDG Jim Hartman. After the Lions filled their bellies with a delicious steak dinner PDG Sylvan Lang spoke to our club about the PA Lions Foundation. The foundation was formed to provide grants for worthwhile Lions projects. There are two awards: the prestigious PA Lions Fellow Award and the PIP Joe Wroblewski Award. PDG Sylvan presented a grant check to our club for roof restoration of the pavilion at Lions Park. The Lions Park provides a ball field which is used by various community sports teams, a picnic pavilion with complete facilities and playground. The facility is handicap accessible. Dan Rossi, BVRS Board Member, told the Bethel Park Lions Club that a blind person can do almost anything that he is willing to put the time and energy into learning how to do. President Nancy Wells presented a donation to Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services.
The Bethel Park Lions were represented at Lions Appreciation Day on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Beacon Lodge. Each year in July the Lions across Pennsylvania convene at Beacon Lodge for a day of fellowship with a BBQ Chicken meal (made by the Lions of District 14L) and this is capped off with a talent show performed by the campers of Beacon Lodge (who are blind, visually impaired or handicapped). This talent show shows their talents.
